Eli, Australian Shepherd
Eli is a young blue merle male, with a full tail. He was born on
7/3/08. Eli is deaf and has very little vision, however he has adjusted
well to his impairments and gets around fine once he maps his way
around the house. Eli is up to date with his yearly shots and has
been neutered, he is also on flea prevention and heartworm prevention.
Eli was turned over to us by his owner who did not have a secure
yard to keep him in. He is the product of merle to merle breeding,
Double Merle pups are born when both of the parents are merle. It
doesn’t matter what color merle, how much merle the parents have,
how little (or how much) white trim, what breed they are, or even
that the parents are the same breed. Statistically, 25% of the pups
from two merle parents will be Double Merles.
Eli maybe be lacking in hearing and vision but not in love and intelligence.
Eli is fine with everyone he meets and loves a good butt scratch.
He quickly adapts to new surroundings and is great with any new
dogs he meets. He easily would be a great dog to use for therapy
work, he loves people and does not have any fears of new places
and people. He is stunningly handsome in person, nice fluffy coat
and a great build.
Eli is a real go-getter, he loves to roughhouse with his foster
brother and sisters but he also has been exposed to a lot as a puppy,
his foster home has been dedicated to taking him out to events and
socializing him thanks to her hard work he is a very well socialized
puppy and does not know he has any type of limitations.
Eli is getting along fine with his foster siblings and has been
exposed to the cats in his foster home. He does not like to be in
a crate and we are working on training him to be able to spend some
time in one. He is housebroken. Eli has a good level of activity
and does enjoy a lot of attention and affection. He will require
a secure fenced yard to help keep safe. Eli loves to play and wrestle
with the big dogs in his foster home, he enjoys running with them
and enjoys stuffed toys also. Eli will require a home that is prepared
to deal with a special needs boy, he will need a fenced yard and
we prefer a home with another dog that has the patience to guide
him. You can learn more about these special needs dog at www.deafdogs.org
and at http://www.lethalwhites.com/
While many people are not looking for a special needs dog, Eli has
a lot of offer any family, he is confident and well adjusted to
his circumstances. Education is the key to learning how to manage
a special needs dog and you will quickly learn that they do not
have any learning limits! We have uploaded a video
of Eli to show how well he gets around, this was his first time
in my yard and you can see how quickly he adjusts to new places.
