Mariah
& Daffodil
Mariah is a lovely almost "correct " Jack Russell Terrier who will
be five years old this month (June 2007). She is not completely
correct for two reasons. One is that one of her ears points up and
one points down. The other is that she has had an eye removed due
to Primary Lens Luxation. Mariah can still see and navigates as
well as she did before she lost her eye, but her future could hold
blindness if her other eye luxates. She takes medicine to prevent
this and right now her vet says she is doing grrrreat. Noone can
predict when or whether she will go completely blind, but she hears
very well and she will adjust if she does because she is that kind
of a girrrl.
Mariah was born in my home and is very close to her mother. Her
mother carries the gene for PLL but does not have it. They are very
close and would love to be adopted together, though all offers of
good forever homes will be considered. If Mariah does lose her sight
then Daffodil would be her seeing eye dog. Both dogs are beautiful
and sweet tempered, Mariah being one of the sweetest and most affectionate
JRs I have ever known and her Mom also being a love. Daffodil is
7 years old. Both dogs have recent rabies, distemper, etc. and Daffodil
is micro chipped and just CERF tested ( to see if she could also
have PLL - she is clear).
I have other Jack Russells and we lost our home in New Orleans in
Katrina. I am going to go back soon, but can not face the possibility
of having to evacuate again with all of the dogs. Hotels did not
want us, and since Mariah developed her eye disease she has had
a serious problem getting along with two of my other Jack Russells.
I have to separate them, and this would be very hard in an evacuation.
I will keep Mariah if a good home is not found, but she would be
much better off in a more quiet enviornment where hurricanes were
not a problem and there were not enemies in the next room. I love
her very much but I am sure that there is someone out there who
can love her just as much and give her a better situation. Mariah
loves everyone. She has never lived with cats but I have seen many
older Jack Russells adjust to cats very well. Male dogs would never
be a problem. Mariah is not "Alpha" at all, but Daffodil tends to
be. Large female dogs who are gentle would be unlikely to be a problem.
Small fiesty females would be a question mark, and probably not
a good idea if both dogs were to go. Mariah alone would likely let
the other dog be dominant. Both dogs like children who love dogs.
The dogs are currently in New York State near Woodstock. I will
be moving to New Orleans as soon as my house there has electricity,
which is sometime between now and October of 07. Our New Orleans
home is in Gentilly, but I am hoping that Mariah finds a home before
we move so she doesn't have to share the car with her two enemies
on the way down or worry about floods when we get there.
